The problem
Netflix had never launched a K-drama at scale in Brazil. There was no playbook, no proven audience, and no reason to believe a foreign drama could break out in a market that watches everything dubbed. And they handed us the first attempt.
The position we took
The real audience for a Korean drama in Brazil was never Gen Z. It was women who grew up believing in grand, aching love songs, the kind Alcione has always sung. Speak to them, and everyone else follows.
What we made
We turned Alcione, already a Brazilian icon, into the country’s biggest K-drama fan, and let the whole country watch her prove it: singing her biggest hit entirely in Korean, coached line by line by a Korean translator, no AI, no shortcuts, just her voice learning a language she had never spoken before.
The numbers
Views passed 16 million. Shares crossed 200 thousand. Engagements topped 787 thousand. But no number beats this: Park Bo-Gum, the show’s own star, learned Alcione’s song in Portuguese and sang it back, without anyone asking.
